Brother Johnson and Sister
A man once said that maturity is what helps you to handle some certain things in life. Age does not connote maturity. Mr. Johnson sat at the left side of the bed. He was alone at this time. His friends had not come to spend the weekend at his place since they had a wedding to attend on Saturday morning at a place of about seven hundred miles away. At 2:00am he woke up as usual, spent an hour and few minutes to say the Lord’s Prayer. Last night he had received a message from one of the church members to be present at a picnic organized by the church, his interest was different. At thirty three he is not married, not engaged and not in relationship.
It was commonly said that before you propose or accept a proposal, make sure you inform your church pastor and mentor and follow the rules that govern courtship in your church.
Mr. Johnson confusion started when he had a conviction about a sister in his church, having engaged his elders in faith about the matter received an affirmative response of a-go-ahead and must pray incessantly. The sister whose name cannot be properly pronounced or spent began playing hide and seek with brother Johnson. She would ignore him; make him wait while gossiping after church service with her friends. He was patient with her juvenile puff of frivolity.
His expectations began going down the drain when he thought she was to pray and know the mind of God concerning the matter, instead she was requesting for the years of his schooling and level of qualification, dreams, aspirations and ambitions.
He believed that his parents' approval and blessing is important too, so he had informed his old folks about sister. The day he told his parent about her his mother was not too pleased while the father smiled broadly at him, the mother kept a straight face.
The patient dog eats the fattest bone they say, but Johnson’s case was depicting a different cause of action, there seems to be no bone at all nonetheless a thin bone. In his usual manner of transparency he had told this sister all about him including his health challenges. She was three years older than him but then he saw no problem in age disparity. In fact her physical building was an opposite of what he liked. “She will soon come” he assures himself each time he goes to bed including praying for God’s protection for her. The sister disappeared from church and reappeared after three months. He became a slave of his own convictions.
Unfortunately, he discovered some irregularities in the process. She called with different phone numbers at different times, no one in the church knew her house even though she had been in that church branch for more than three years, and she hardly spoke about herself. She was becoming a torn in his flesh, going forward was desirable, going backward was not a preference and waiting on the line is frustrating. Each time his friends sat with him, they spoke about their wives and children. He had tried becoming friends with one or two sisters but this strong conviction handcuffs his own will. The philosophy of what should he do? What can he do and what will he do? These are questions one can actually subject to right and wrong, however, the concept of right and wrong may be a concern but a man cannot rise above his experience and knowledge.
