Is money truly freedom?

The word “freedom” is an ambiguous word because it has more than one meaning depending on the perspective in view. Freedom in my own opinion is the absence of constrain or imprisonment. The word that can best be used in placement of freedom in this context is liberty while the opposite is slavery. All humans love freedom. Nigeria gained her full freedom from the British colonies in 1960. Freedom is sweet but hard to manage.

“The truth will set you free, but first it will pass you off”, in the words of Joe Klaas. However, I have come to a deeper understanding that the bustle and hustle of man on the planet is nothing but pursuit of freedom. He passes through the rigor of attaining a degree in the four walls of a classroom; for freedom. He seeks for job or creates one if he possess a spirit of an entrepreneur for only one commodity; freedom. 

Charlotte Bronte opines, “I am no bird; and no net ensnares me: I am a free human being with an independent will.” And that makes the man restless trying to put food on his table so that he can attain a level of freedom in life.

The Nigerian politicians that save our currency in their personal account are looking for a level of freedom. The foreign accounts, foreign investment and foreign assets are for the purpose of a higher level of freedom that supposedly surmounts them above the ground level of the masses. Freedom can either be attained from knowledge or fear.

 Is money truly freedom?

George Orwell opines that war is peace and freedom is slavery. In his context he passed a message that birthed out of a discovery of how a man can react to freedom at a premature level. He spoke these words in 1984. Nigeria gained her independence in 1960, owing the leadership to us. It is like the headquarters of a bank that is controlled by an indigene of that country instead of foreign personnel. One expects a higher level of loyalty, trust and integrity from such a leader. The case is different in Nigeria which I supposedly suppose is due to one problem. 

Mahatma Ganddi believes that freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes. In the light of the above statement I would like to agree with a Chadian proverb that opines that a person with too much ambition cannot sleep in peace, which brought to light one of the political sickness of Nigerian politicians; over-ambitiousness.

Is money truly freedom?

The major sickness in the politics that brings about all manner of political prostitution, embezzlement and infidelity is fear. Fear of the future. These politicians suffers from phobia which drives their hug for stealing money their next generation cannot finish spending.  It started far before the dictator A. A man from Niger country who ate and stole the money meant for ten generations after him which Nigeria has not been able to retrieve from foreign account up to date. Don’t abuse them nor envy them, pity them. The case is beyond that which meets the eye, a psychiatrist service is needful. Money brings financial freedom but any money earned that puts the conscience on a high pressure of unrest is not freedom but slavery.
