Hope is lost
Hope is lost
WRITTEN BY ISAAC ODUGBEMI
On the other side of the next street stood I
Watching like a watcher watching from the tower
No one paid attention to anyone
Nor anything in particular
Everyone is hustling and working
Hustling for a day bread
But for how long can someone tell me
The prophet prophesied a day before yesterday
That a kongo of rice will be sold for five naira
And naira will better dollar
Hope is lost
Life is full of patience in struggle
Crying and laughing at the pain
Hope is lost
The legs walking
The hands holding
The heads shaking
The mouths talking
The sun shining
The body sweating
The stomach hungry
The man dying
The hot breeze hurting
The time flying
The chickens playing
The church bell ringing
The choir singing
The children playing
The mothers weeping
The fathers fighting
The government ignoring
The people dying
Dying of hustling
Has the saviour missed his road
Or should we look for another.
